MURDER IN THE MOOR
Watson was extremely surprised when he realised that the man who was hiding in the moor was Sherlock Holmes. The investigator had done his best to make everyone believe that he was in London, while he was actually investigating in the moor. He had discovered some interesting facts: Beryl was actually Stapleton’s wife and not his sister, but Stapleton and Laura Lyons had been secretly meeting. Now Laura was desperate because she wanted to marry Stapleton. Holmes added that he was almost sure that the murderer was Stapleton. That’s when the two men heard a horrible scream. Thinking it could be Sir Henry, they ran to see what had happened. At the side of a cliff, they saw a dead man who was wearing Henry’s clothes, but moving the body they saw that the dead man was Selden. Next to the corpse there were some paw prints, it seemed like the hound had killed again. After a while, Stapleton came running to see what had happened. Holmes noticed that he seemed very surprised when he saw the body.
Holmes followed Watson to Baskerville’s Hall, where he saw the portrait of one of the members of the family, Hugo Baskerville, who was incredibly identical to Stapleton. Holmes was now sure, Stapleton was Sir Charles’s murderer.
Why does Holmes think that Stapleton is the murderer of Sir Charles and Selden?
